  6. Conveniently located in the heart of the historical center of Florence, 
  7. in Piazza Santa Croce, Palazzo Antellesi is a landmark Renaissance
  8. Palazzo.

  10. The Palazzo acquired  its present form in the late sixteenth century when 
  11. several narrow and tall medieval towers that occupied its location were
  12. restructured, modified, and combined to create the typical wide and
  13. sweeping aspect of the renaissance Palazzo.  At the beginning of the
  14. sixteenth century, to add splendor to Piazza Santa Croce, where the
  15. ancient Roman ball game of the Calcio in Costume was played, the front
  16. of Palazzo Antellesi was frescoed with allegorical themes.

  18. In recent years the Palazzo underwent a complete renovation that preserved 
  19. its original beauty and architectural details. The Palazzo was divided
  20. it into several apartments, equipped with all modern conveniences, and
  21. completely furnished. All have TV with CNN reception. These are the
  22. apartments that have become the Florence home of an international
  23. clientele of visitors.

  40. Piazza Santa Croce is at the center of one of Florence's oldest 
  41. neighborhoods, dating back to the early Middle Ages. Many Renaissance
  42. artists lived and had there studios in the narrow streets that lead to
  43. the Piazza. Today these streets are teeming with superb restaurants and
  44. "trattorias", as well as with antique shops of every kind, from the
  45. very frugal ones -- where occasionally, and with  some luck, good buys
  46. are available -- to the more expensive and sophisticated. Some of
  47. Florence's choicest museums are also in the area, like the Casa
  48. Michelangelo (i.e. Michelangelo's own house, filled with  the artist's
  49. mementos and early works), and the museo Horne.

  51. The Uffizi and the Bargello are each about five minutes away by foot.
  52. More ordinary services, such as cleaners, grocery stores, supermarkets,
  53. post office, etc., are also in the area. A convenient taxi stand is at
  54. the Piazza's corner. Very close to Santa Croce is the famous Mercato di
  55. Sant'Ambrogio, one of the oldest, and certainly the best supplied
  56. outdoor food market of the city, where every day the pick of the local
  57. produce is made available to local and visiting gourmets who regularly
  58. inspect the market in the morning. (The well equipped kitchens of
  59. Palazzo Antellesi are an ideal complement to the market's offerings). 
  60. Palazzo Antellesi, with its frescoed facade, is one of the most
  61. important palaces of Santa Croce. It is listed as a sight in most guide
  62. books, either as Palazzo Antellesi or as Palazzo dell'Antella.

  67. Florence is a convenient stepping-stone  for one- and two-day visits to 
  68. the art-filled towns of Tuscany and Umbria (Siena, Pisa, Lucca, Arezzo,
  69. San Gimignano, Pienza, Perugia, Assisi, Spoleto, Urbino, etc.), all
  70. about one to two hours driving distance from the city. A convenient
  71. network of highways and buses  provides easy access to these famous
  72. hill towns.

  75. reach Rome in less than two hours, Venice and Milano in three. All of
  76. central and northern Italy is easily accessible by train from Florence.

  79. connections to many major European cities, including Paris and London.
  80. There are special inexpensive three-day round trip fares from Florence
